Via the TU, from ace reporter Abel Harding, some good news tonight...
Brown secures more marquee GOP backers
Two weeks after prominent Republican fund-raiser Peter Rummell signed on to support Alvin Brown, the Democratic mayoral hopeful has secured a slew of more high-profile public endorsements.
Among the new Brown backers who went public Thursday are hospital executive Hugh Greene, bank executive Marty Lanahan and businessman John Baker, all notable GOP contributors. They’ve been joined by a number of others, among them former CSX head Pete Carpenter, former city General Counsel Jim Rinaman and Walt Bussells, the former JEA chief executive.

They even have a handy list:

Looks like Jacksonville is ready to wake up!
Wonderful to see this list, including many very influential staunch republicans, supporting Brown.
Almost as exciting is the fact that the usually narrow minded posters at Jacksonville.com are coming out in support of Brown as well.
This is great news. Now I don't feel so alone anymore! haha
Come on Audrey.
With so many of her closest supporters now backing Alvin, Audrey's silence has become conspicuous. After everything she said, she can't possibly believe our best path forward is with Mike Hogan.
:) I do wonder what Audrey is thinking.....

perhaps there's a deal for her endorsement to come in when it matters most...which would be around May 1
That has been my hope.
Yeah and on First Coast Connect today they were saying that people have to believe Brown will win to bother to endorse him. This is a proud moment...when we can put party politics behind and do what is right for Jacksonville! :D
Speaking of Melissa Ross and First Coast Connect... Alvin will be on her show for the full hour Monday. Tell a friend. :)

While there may be a few "staunch" Repubs in that list, I can tell you that at least a few of those individuals are relatively liberal (by Jax standards). A lot of those men (and women) have supported Dems in the past. Really, most of them support both Dems and Repubs and hardly any of them are big Westside GOP types (I wouldn't say any of them are). I know one is from New Hampshire, one spends more time in Manhattan, one is a registered Dem, and nearly all of them couldn't care less about actual politics, it's more about business relations and "mitigation." I respect their thoughts toward politics and I would support a candidate based solely on the fact that these leaders in our community do, and I know I'm not alone, so it does speak volumes.
PS: I actually think they aren't throwing their support around Hogan because he
is very political, and that's a turnoff. Publicly supporting someone who is very partisan gives you away to the world, and sometimes that can be good and most of the time that is just plain bad for business and bad for relationships.
Speaking of high profile Republicans lending their support to Alvin Brown...

Thank you, Mr. Mayor. And classy of Alvin Brown to not make a big deal about it... given the circumstances.
