In light of what Duval County School System did with sports funding, I never found something so argued over as sports funding. It's like the entire city woke up for a minute.
Why do kids have more enthusiasm over sports than over basic academics? Sports is hard. It's a grind, requires daily work to be good at it, and the rewards can be shaky at best. Yet even after all this, a huge amount of kids willingly want to do sports. In the same league, reading, writing, math, science, history - learning all these is just as hard and grueling and not surprisingly, only a few people are enthusiastic about learning more. Most become good not because they want to but because they are forced too.
When these kids become adults, the sports people still talk about sports. They keep up with it and can tell me all about the sports to the point where they are the Wikipedia of sports. The education side? The people I find who willingly open a book and learn more are in the small minority. Most people I find NEVER want to open a book about things like math or science again in their lives after leaving school.
What's going on here?
Welcome to America...the land of plenty...seems as if we've gotten lazy because before the 20th century learning was looked up to...something changed...personally i see a bunch of lazy ass' coming up...somehow i feel that maybe the internet has caused a lack for the desire to know....it makes sense kind of...why learn..it's on my phone...
