Title: Newk's in Jacksonville
Post by: johnnyroadglide on April 20, 2011, 08:14:56 AM
From the T-U...
Newk's Express Cafe, an "express casual" restaurant chain, is coming to Northeast Florida.

The Jackson, Miss.-based company announced today that franchisees Terry and Linda Russell will open five Newk's restaurants in Jacksonville and St. Augustine. No planned locations or targeted opening dates were included in the news release.

Newk's menu includes a large variety of salads, soups, California-style pizzas, oven-baked sandwiches and homemade cakes.

Newk's â€" established in 2004 by the founders of McAlister's Deli â€" currently operates 32 restaurants in seven Southern states, including one Florida in Panama City.

I have a friend in Jackson who goes there when she can and says its great...and she would go there more often if it was closer to where she lived.

I went there Wednesday for lunch.

It was actually pretty good. I had the soup/sandwich combo.

All the managers were there on alert.

I told the manager that the tinting on the windows were so dark facing Southside, I couldn't tell if it was open yet.

He agreed that it was too dark.

High cuisine perhaps not, value cuisine yes.
