Does anyone know when Park View will start to come down?

My top 5 DT Jax eyesores.

1. Park View Inn
2. Berkman II
3. AT&T Communications Building on Pearl (you gotta love that brutalism style)
4. The mostly windowless FL Life Building (this classic wouldn't make the list when it's fully restored)
5. Maybe FBC's 'worlds most far inland lighthouse' on Union St?

The Park View is coming down now. The demo process is already underway.

Are walls falling or are they still doing prepwork?

^ I agree.  Banks moving into the neighborhood could mean good things are coming.

The new tower at the Baptist Medical Center downtown campus has been renamed. It is now the Baptist / Wolfson Tower.

Did Oral Explosion close?

Thanks, for the update Overstreet.  KenFSU, it appears that the food court version of Oral Explosion has closed and is now a single restaurant.  Acme54321, right now it appears that interior demo work is taking place.  I don't think they'll be dynamiting or brining in wrecking balls for this one.

Exactly!  Don't they know that San Marco ISN'T HUNGRY!??!  They don't want any more food!!! [/sarcasm]

Let the open market decide which pizza place is better, and if the market can't support both then let the other one die. It's great that two new places are willing to take a chance on San Marco.

I really like that fourth picture in the Fountain section, the one looking down the riverfront with the Riverside high-rises and the water taxi in the background.

Is not that we don't need anymore restaurants, I just want to more diversity around here. It's like everyone in Jax decided it would be a good idea to open a pizza place.

The way I see it, only the strong will survive.  Those that don't, have invested good money in existing buildings that will create essential "ready-to-move-in" opportunities for the next urban pioneer.  From this point of view, keep bringing the pizza!

Let's hope so, 'cause otherwise banks are something of a waste of prime retail space due to their limited operating hours.

The "Baptist Streetscape project" you have shown is in reality some UG utilities installation. The streetscape stuff comes later. Don't be upset when the temporary sidewalk pavement is placed to await a later contract to install the pretty stuff.

Nice catch Overstreet.  I noticed the utility work as well.

I wonder if this is in anticipation of the 4 story office building proposed for the corner of Prudential and Palm?

Good stuff.  Can't wait to see what the monthly updates look like a couple years from now with a hopefully far bettere economic environment.  Does anyone know when the courthouse should be done?  I am not really excited about it but am more interested to know when everything gets moved over from the current courthouse and annex and we start to see what comes about at their locations.

I thought everything but the parking deck was coming down?

Yes.  However, the tower (along Orange St) and rooms along State Street both sit on top of the parking deck and the structural elements that support them also support the deck.  My wild guess is, to not harm the structural integrity of the deck, the tower will be removed floor by floor.

That is the same thing I was thinking. I dont see them doing it the traditional way

This build is a single family residence, not lofts (plural). I aim to get the private tour soon. They are my newest neighbors and super cool too! (obviously)

Add to this list:

To the left of the Carter's Pharmacy pic (basically the last door you can see) is a new cafe that will be opening "soon." I don't know what the place is or how soon is soon. It looks like its pretty close (weeks). They generally have a two-seater table outside during the day (I'm guessing as advertisement that you will eventually be able to eat there). For what seems like a decent intersection for walkability, there isn't a whole lot of room for outdoor seating. Whiteway, for example, seems like they could easily utilize outdoor seating.

Also, at King and Herschel (former satelite Pizza Palace), Soup's On is progressing. The sign is up (as are decals on windows and doors) and major renovations are underway (looks like the biggest structural parts are done).

Exciting times.

But if Hogan wins, there will be no more develpoement in the core to read about. Instead we will be reading about demolition.

I believe this is that War Hammer place or whatever it is being called. It is a gaming place like Magic The Gathering and role playing. They are open now, but have not opened the cafe part as of yet.

ahh. Didn't realize there was a cafe to it. Also, don't realize how to access the Warhammer place (can't say I've seen a sign in all my walking by - I will look closer).

Treaty Oak Park is looking great! My wife and I biked over there the other day! We walked around up until I literally tripped over a sleeping bum (I'm going to assume he was sleeping). Then we noticed the other three or four camped out in various places. We biked away after that.

But it looks great!

Thank you for the nice pictures and comments of our new home in Springfield.  We hope that more people will consider beautiful Springfield to live, work and play and possibly open a pizza restaurant!  Park View Inn is coming down--but not as fast as the Synagogue after the "suspicious" fire.  The AIA Jacksonville Emerging Design Professionals have chosen the Klutho Building on the corner of Orange & Main, former EHT building and 1st Cadillac showroom in Jacksonville as one of their 2011 design competition buildings.  Can't wait to see their vision.
