It definitely makes me think of the building that Waffa and Mike's is in.  1544 N. Main Street.  But it's differnt.

I was just about to post that!  Sure looks a lot like it on Google maps.

You got it...I was driving around that area last year and saw that building and thought that would make a neat model for my model railroad. So I took a bunch of pictures and came home and built it.

Not for nothing, but is there a way to hide all that map URL code?  I wanted to just say, "Map" and have all the code hidden.  I could do it on vB, I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it here on SMF.

Make a shorter link at http://bit.ly

You can also do this (url=http://example.com)Example(/url) replacing parens with brackets.

Yay it works (http://www.metrojacksonville.com)

You should update it for the 2011 & put the crack junkies/dealers in front of it instead of the car. ;D

And before anyone jumps on me with the "not in MY Springfield" stuff, I have friends that live very close to this & they've told me all the stories. I've also witnessed myself some woman tapping her vein & getting ready to shoot up. So yeah, its there.

Anyone know who owns the building??

P.S. That's a really nice job BTW.

oh man i learned that that intersection is the worst part of springfield its just the gas station hud housing and a bad rental there
the drug dealing on that corner at night is plain to see. thats crazy because 7 and 9 street there are really really nice.

8th and Liberty....not the greatest intersection. I've always liked that building, in fact, Preservation SOS did a clean up and beautification on that corner a few months ago....the flowers are all still there too.

The property: 252 E 8TH ST is owned by:  LAUGHING GULL LLC

Thanks.. my railroad is set in the late 40's early 50's so a car and real live station attendants are appropriate. Remember those???

F or some information on this you may want to take it up with
S par, since the title to that property is held
U nder craig van horn's investment company and as has been discussed in about
8 different threads, Craig Van Horn and SPAR are simpatico. Maybe
1 day someone will finally do something with it, it's been stagnating along with the
3 parcels surrounding it, also owned by van horn, forever.

Yeah, I've seen dealing a lot there. Its so open, I don't understand why the cops aren't busting some of that up.

But it does provide countless hours of free entertainment. There's a tranny named Coco (or Kiki?) that randomly busts it out to 'Thriller' playing from a boombox across the way at the open gas station. And from what I understand, it's quite a show. :D

The day labor place directly across from it is open again, I'm guessing as a day labor place again because the lights are on when I come home from work in the morning and there's usually a few guys hanging out in front of it. Makes me happy I'm back on Walnut- what a difference a block makes.

I believe that several people have tried to buy this place, but there are contamination issues with it.. I live near here, on Walnut, the activity at this property has calmed down a bit. Not too long ago there were people dealing right out of the garage part. They had the door partially opened and would do their business inside. I've seen the cops parking here quite a bit. I do like the building and I hope that someone comes along before too long and saves it.. Nice model, it's too bad you couldn't make the real building look that good again..

because, man, nothing's worse than a business that coördinates people in desparate need ov jobs with companies that need work done that most people aren't willing to do.  it's disgusting the way they help keep people in food and shelter without just giving handouts!
