Title: Rick Scott: Mike Hogan is My Guy
Post by: Jimmy on April 15, 2011, 11:57:41 PM
Well, I know everyone will be pleased to know that Rick Scott trusts Mike Hogan to get Jacksonville's finances in order.  Pleased to know that Rick Scott said: this is my guy.  Pleased to know that Hogan said: Rick Scott is what Jacksonville needs.  An arch-conservative tea party love-fest right there on our St. Johns, our American Heritage, River.

There they were, Rick and Mike, BFFs, hanging out this evening with their pals in the tea party.  Teapublicans talking about what they want to cut and what we have to give up, so that they can satisfy the thirst of the anti-government crowd.  There, on that stage shared by some of the most offensive enemies of our progress that could be imagined.  People who detest public transit.  Who hate cultural and arts.  He see social services as a burden too big for us to handle.  Bigots and small-minded theocrats who want to legislate who can get married and who has to move to the back of our society's bus.

I say no more.  The line must be drawn right here in Jacksonville.  It's time to tell Rick Scott "no, sir, thank you."  We don't want your policies.  We don't want your scandal.  We don't want your candidate for Mayor.

The line must be drawn here in Jacksonville.  That's what this election is about.

QuoteGovernor Rick Scott and Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll both endorsed fellow conservative Republican Mike Hogan for Jacksonville mayor this afternoon.

I'm sure Mike and Rick will work hand-in-hand on the Hogan agenda.  No more illegals (what an offensive term!).  Guns for everyone (and bullets too!).  No mass transit for you.  And whatever else the conservatives hate and want to deprive from everyone else.

Well if you're referring to potential crackdowns by Hogan don't forget about blacks crime, baby killers public health, tree hugging pussies sustainable development, and useless handouts public transportation. We're in for a whole new world of hurt under Hogan.

Don't forget selling parkland ...

These two guys are cut from the same cloth.  Whether they want to send transportation money back to Washington or sell off our parkland to their developer buddies.  It's all the same to me.  This agenda has got to be moderated.  In Jacksonville, we can't count on the City Council to reign it in.

We need a balanced, divided government here.  We need a Mayor who has a different take than the tired and failed policies of the past.  Alvin Brown will provide the balance we need in Jacksonville before the extremists take us right over the ledge.

You mean ruining parks by giving state land to your cronies creating jobs?

Lighten up people, the votes haven't even started yet.

Regardless of who gets elected I would like either candidate to embrace all the issues, not just the ones that are stereotyped.

This is the systematic Tea Party coup of Florida.

No, Tim, they're not.  Not the intention of the title.

More and more I'm convinced that if regular people would go and vote, this tea party business would subside in a hurry.  I'm sick of extremists on both sides marking the terms of the debate.

Yeah, we should lighten up, given how well Scott is taking care of Florida...we should just feel comfortable with Hogan possibly taking the wheel here in Jax....NOT!

Yep, I have a Republican friend who sent me an email about this.

"Mike Hogan just made this easy for me.  How can I get a Brown sign for my yard?"

Yeah, us Republicans said the same thing about Bush after his first term, but no matter how much we detested his domestic policies, we still could not bring ourselves to vote for Kerry and Edwards.

I've been a Republican all my voting life and will have no problem bringing myself to vote for Brown.

Such foolishness, shakes head.............party before country, or party before city in this case.

Republicans often seem to have that habit of preferring more damage by a Republican, than to bring themselves to vote for a Democrat. ::)

How rational is that?

Obama seemed to have bucked that trend and was just 1% short of carrying Duval county.

I just think that the Hogan hug with Rick Scott is enough to give us the 1,500 votes that 1% entails in a majoral race in Duval county.

ROTFLMAO!!!!

11/7/2000 elections, while interesting names abound on it, showed Bush/Cheney crushing Gore/Lieberman, after the recount and absentee ballots, 57 to 41 percent in Duval County. That was way more than 1%. Interestingly enough in 2000, there were ONLY 423,967 registered voters, but there was a 68% turnout. Then in 2004, Bush defeated Kerry 57 to 41, AGAIN. With 515,000 registered voters and a 73% turnout. Then in 2008, McCain beat Obama 50.53% to 48.63%, with a 77.8% turnout and 536,000 registered voters. So 68%, 73% and then almost 78% turnout in national elections.

So that brings us to the local races. In 2003, Peyton's first election, he won with just under 50% of the public voting. 230,954 people voted. 2007 was a big joke with only 9% turnout, since Peyton ran unopposed. Then our last election with only 514,000 registered voters, we had 29.7% show up and vote, or just over 152,000.

What the Democrats complain about here is the whole issue with members of their own party taking votes away when Nat Glover ran against Peyton. Go check the results for the newbies here, Peyton was in 2nd place and that is when Carlucci tried to throw his almost 20% of the vote to Glover who, if that worked, would have had nearly 90,000 votes, plenty to outpace Weinstein and Peyton combined. But that was not to pass as Glover and Carlucci did not have enough pull with Democrats to get them to the polls and the Republicans beat them by about 40,000 votes. Glover did get his 96,000 votes, but Peyton had 133,000, again with near 50% turnout.

I doubt we see 50% turnout for this election.
