QuoteWe are on the verge of securing birth control with no co-pays for millions of Americans.

Today, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommended that birth control be considered a preventive health service and therefore be covered by health plans without co-pays for millions of women. This is one of the biggest victories for women's health in a generation â€" but we aren't quite there yet.

Now, it's up to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to act on the IOM's recommendation. We are this close to a monumental victory that will change the lives of millions of women â€" and HHS needs to hear from you right now. Please tell HHS you support making birth control available to millions of women without co-pays or other out-of-pocket costs.

You know as well as I do that the past few months have been extraordinarily difficult for women seeking affordable care. Relentless attacks have eliminated or attempted to eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood health centers, and anti-choice lawmakers have been passing laws that undermine women's access to care at an alarming rate.

But we've never stopped fighting for a simple truth: birth control is basic health care. And that means that insurance plans in America should cover birth control with no co-pays.

One of the many great things about the new health care law is that it makes preventive health care more affordable for Americans. And now HHS has the power to recognize birth control as essential women's preventive care and require new insurance plans to cover it without co-pays. But you can bet that anti-choice groups are going to be lobbying hard to prevent women from getting access to more affordable birth control. That means we have to be twice as loud â€" and we need your voice now. Click here to tell HHS that you support making birth control available to millions of women without co-pays.
