Title: Elvis Presley's First #1 Hit Born In Jax!
Post by: MajorCordite on April 08, 2011, 02:02:58 PM
Hi everybody.  I have been way from this awesome site for far to long!  Its been over a year.  Whenever I need to get the info I can always depend on you folks.  I'm writing an article on Glenn Reeves and I need some clarification.   As you may or may not know, Glenn cut the demo record, Heartbreak Hotel written by Mae Axton which was given to Elvis Presley.  (his 1st number 1 hit)

I thought I remembered Glenn as a DJ for AM station WPDQ in the 1960's.   The radio station was in a small office located in the Atlantic Coast Line Building which is now CSX on the river.  My dad worked for the ACL and sometimes on a Saturday he would work and take me by WPDQ's  studio and I got to watch them live on the air. (and play a request, too!)

However, most of the bio info currently on the net says Glenn worked for WQIK.   Did he work at both stations?
Any memories of Glenn Reeves?   Thanks!

Don't have any memories to share, as this predates me. But, I just took a picture today of the house on Dellwood where Axton wrote Heartbreak Hotel, and where Glenn Reeves recorded the demo. (http://www.rockabilly.nl/references/messages/glenn_reeves.htm)  Shoot me a message if you want me to send you the photo.
