The long wait is over for Artis Gilmore.
The 7-foot-2 gentle giant who led Jacksonville University’s basketball team to its greatest days including a berth in the 1970 NCAA Championship game and who went on to illustrious career in both the NBA and ABA, was elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Good for Artis. He is a good guy and was one hell of a basketball player. He's been involved with the Jacksonville community for almost 40 years. You would think we could name a road after him or something.

Hear! Hear!
I am close with his family. This has been a long time coming. If you ever bump into him say "you look alot like Artis Gilmore". Wait for his response.... Priceless.
I see him at the Publix by the St Johns Town Center. You can't appreciate how tall 7'3 is until you stand next to Artis Gilmore. I'm 6'3 and he makes me feel short.
Bout
Damn
Time
IMHO, I think his time in the ABA was held against him.
Say it again buckethead!
Ran into him at the Gate station on Stockton one day and we started talking about JU where we both graduated. Some short kid who obviously didn't know who he was, came up to him and said, "Wow! How tall are you anyway."
Artis looked at him seriously and said, "5' 9 and 3/4 inches". Look on the kid's face was priceless.
He also gets "Hey are you Wilt Chamberlin?" alot.
