Title: Jacksonville has not hit bottom yet?!
Post by: mtraininjax on March 31, 2011, 05:40:12 PM
So you think life is getting better in Jacksonville? Well, not according to this Forbes article, says we still have a ways to go....

http://www.forbes.com/2011/03/16/cities-where-the-economies-are-getting-worse.html (http://www.forbes.com/2011/03/16/cities-where-the-economies-are-getting-worse.html)

And no, this is not April Fools Day, yet!

QuoteA recent report by Forbes lists Jacksonville as one of the country's cities that may see its economy get worse before getting better. Forbes says Jacksonville is eighth on its list, citing nearly 11 percent unemployment and a projected decrease in jobs for 2011.

Time to invest in JACKSONVILLE! I have found many of the Forbes forecasts over the years to be almost 100% wrong. We must be headed for some good times in the River City. I remember another forecast from a magazine that said "The National Soccer League must have a sense of humor because they are moving the Boston team to Jacksonville..." STUPID DAMN NAMELESS MAGAZINE WONDER WHAT THEY THOUGHT WHEN WE LED THE LEAGUE IN ATTENDANCE?  Anyone else remember a quote that went sort of like "Jacksonville Jaguars, the new team voted most likely to score 2 touchdowns by 2020?"  My favorite was back to the business magazines when they said "The largest loss of insurance and banking employment was in Fruit Cove, Florida!" Uh Huh!

SOMEONE PASS THE SOCO!

Well..with years and years of defunding of our city there is no suprise our city is so behind. Our children rank the lowest in many things and we are the murder capital of our state...all the while we enjoy the cheapest area to live in....it's maddening.

Truth.... this report by forbes makes me laugh... now is the best time to invest in Jax. years from now these times will be looked at as an incredible bargain.
The real punchline is Forbes says that as terrible as the local economy will be, the population will grow!!! LMAO! UH HUH!

Someone who represents a Chamber of Commerce at the city I moved from said something that really got me "don't worry about all the negative reports about 'the economy'. Listen, all of YOU are the economy! The economy is the community!"

Made me think.

I guess being one of the top 10 places to retire is also misleading???

That has to do with golf and a large population of other older people....that and cheap houses and taxes and lots of cheap stuff...this is "the cheap city"...

Yeah, lol. Not a positive as fas as I'm concerned. Old people/baby boomers typically HATE urban cores & want nothing to do with them. Remember, this is the bunch that basically started the whole cookie cutter suburban movement in large numbers. I think we've got that covered here.

As usual Forbes is a bunch of crap! If anything, there has been jobs added. I know several people who are job less and are getting 2-4 job offers at one time.

Has someone placed you in handcuffs and you cannot leave? I am sure the grass is greener somewhere else, seriously, I'll help you pack. I love Jacksonville for all the good and most of the bad.
