We now have warmer weather, and it seems to be bringing out all sorts of people who feel the need to make door to door sales calls in my neighborhood :( I live in the Riverside area near Boone Park. Anyone else in Riverside experiencing this? It alarms me, because I always assume that it's an opportunity for someone to "case" my house, and I never open the door or I don't open it all the way. Is this normal for this time of year?
Unfortunately, yes. I have little signs up that say "No Solicitors." Seems to help.
Try answering the door... naked. Mormons hate naked.

I dunno Jimmy, we have great big signs all over the WGV that say NO SOLICITORS, and we still get them by the carload. The JW'S who do a weekly blitz and ignore everything, an occasional couple of Mormons, magazine salesmen putting themselves "through college", Palm Tree salesmen leaving me wondering where they got the trees, and "Sales Managers, from xyz alarm" complete with horror stories of neighbors that were ripped off because they didn't buy...
There was a time in my misspent youth that I had a 4' rattlesnake in an aquarium in an upstairs apartment in Mandarin. The front porch doubled as "balcony" so there was the usual clutter, grill etc... When the JW'S became such pests that I decided the snake needed to go out front under the grill. Right on ques the next visit and "Jake the Snake" cranked it up... I heard a scream and a guy started yelling "SERPENT!" ...and they never came back.
There is but one sane response if you don't own a rattlesnake, LOCK THE DOOR, pull down the shades, turn on the sprinklers, and put the dog on the front porch. OCKLAWAHA
LOL@ Ock.. When I had my German Shepherd, that seemed to be the most effective defense against soliciting.
I know these people do need to make a living.. But NO means NO :)

I'd turn on the sprinklers if the damned things did more than tinkle 6 feet.

I had Jill Dame come and try and solicit my vote, would have loved to have turned the sprinkler on her.
