Title: The coolest streetcar in Florida?
Post by: Ocklawaha on March 15, 2011, 11:11:03 PM
Threw this together just to get an idea of what a historic car would look like pulling out of the only HISTORIC subway in Florida? Please don't tell me it can't be done, you might not know but THIS WAS THE STREETCAR/TROLLEY TUNNEL under Jacksonville Terminals tracks. Before the idiots at the city ruined it by removing the overhead wire, and running a huge box culvert down the middle of it, forever blocking the drainage. The center of this tunnel was about 5' deeper then the current floor. The tracks ran through the deepest part, and under the ties running under the center of the track was a concave trough which funneled heavy rain water to drains attached to pumps and ending at Mc Coys Creek. Would you pay a buck to ride this trolley? Note the indention in the concrete overhead in the tunnel, this was where the trolley pans (used in lieu of wire in tunnels and under bridges) were...

I'd ride it, hell I'd ride any streetcar especially if it took me from point a to point b.

I lodged a PD truck under that little gal sometime in the early nineties. I coulda swore I had enough clearance. The front end of the box fit under the overpass, while the rear was higher. Wedged it in.

oopsie!

I let most of the air out of the tires and moved on.

FYI: It takes some time to fill those truck tires at a gas station air pump.
