I was born at Riverside Hospital... great article Lake!
At least they turned the space into something useful for everyone in the area, unlike too many other places in JAX.
The shopping area was needed...i watched it be dismantled... i lived on river blvd for about 3 years...sad to see the old go but being just up the street from another hospital and it was getting a bit tired...nice new space though.
I watched it being dismantled little by little on my way to the 5 Points Deli every morning, just vaguely remember it from being a kid. Nice history on it, I've always wondered about it.
I lived right across the street (Margaret?) from the emergency room for a couple years. 99¢ breakfasts in the cafeteria were awesome.
How much that area has changed, for the better.
The house I lived in is now a lovely B&B. The shopping center has contributed to a great resurgence in Five Points. The people in the area are interesting and friendly.
A family friend was the Admin for Riverside Hospital and he is now thinking of retiring. (He was considering it nearly twenty years ago when the hospital was closed ;) ) Active minds never retire... thank the Lord!
