Jacksonville just got a lot more appealing for rock music fans all over the country. Why? It's where the Welcome To Rockville festival will be held annually.
The first festival will be Sunday, May 8, with more than 20 bands on three stages at Metropolitan Park. The bands include Godsmack, Seether, Stone Sour, Theory Of A Deadman, Puddle Of Mudd, Skillet, Halestorm, Rev Theory, My Darkest Days, Cold, Art of Dying, Cavo and many others.
Advance tickets go on sale at 7 a.m. Friday, March 4, for $39.50, and VIP tickets for $90, on welcometorockvillefestival.com.
Pre-sales start Tuesday, March 1. For presale password information, visit: www.x1029.com and www.facebook.com/rock1045.
Jacksonville native Danny Wimmer (one of the partners in the massively successful Rock On The Range festival), along with Mike Yokan and Jason Lewis at Orange Garden Productions, have worked together to bring the festival here.
Mistress Juliya from Fuse TV will host the event.
Oh hells yeah.
:D
Nice to see us get some more music coming this way.
Good line up as well.
My taste in music does not bode well to life in Jacksonville. None of these bands appeal to me. And don't even get me started on the radio stations in Jacksonville. It's either Puddle of Mud or Journey. Great..
And I swear if i hear one more sublime cover by a local ripoff band, I'm going put my foot up some no talent, unoriginal @$$.
On a lighter note, I'm looking forward to the Jazz fest this year.
great--someöne wants to do a festival here, and they want to stuff it full ov washed-up has-beens that were never any good in the first place.
I guess it's... something. Only bands missing from that roster are Nickelback and Creed. Post-grunge isn't really my thing but being that these bands get near endless rotation on local radio, maybe the festival will do well, so good luck with all that.
I look at it like the Monster Truck Jam. Maybe not something I would attend but good for my 'hood (DT) and the city at large.
Honestly not sure what makes this any different from the countless other similar rock festivals throughout the country, or even state. It's cool for the locals whose musical tastes haven't evolved beyond 1999/2000 era radio rock, but I think "Jacksonville just got a whole lot more appealing for rock fans throughout the country" is a bit of an overstatement there. As a Top 40 city, we should be aiming WAY higher than this.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I guess it's SOMETHING at least but Godsmack? Puddle Of Mudd? I honestly didn't realize these guys were still around.
I was looking at the Neilsen Designated Market Area Map, though, and we're number 48 on that list. So I would imagine bustling metropolises like Salt Lake City and Milwaukee are getting all the big bands...

Smashmouth, Everclear, and Hoobastank must have been previously booked...
Personally I think that these bands must actually fit well with Jacksonville's rock tastes, as sad as that is. Just listen to 102.9. That station was a glimmer of hope for a decent radio station, but they have slowly transformed into another planet radio playing Limp Bizkit at least once an hour. Seriously.... Limp Bizkit.
Anything done at metpark squeezes business out of the rest of DT. We just need to rethink metpark and turn it into something more useful to DT. Because now, metpark is nothing more than a paracite for DT business and activity.

Yeah, I think you might be right. Unfortunately.
If only they could move this event a little closer to the Monster Jam. Then they could call it the Monster Jam to Rockville. Is there some way to get Skynyrd and maybe Molly Hatchet involved?
Since many here are poo pooing this little STARTUP Rock festival. Who would you like to see at a festival here. I thought Talleyrand Fest a few years back was a good event and was dissappointed to not see it return. I'm sure it takes mucho money and planning to pull it off. This, if successful could evolve over time into a signature event. Gotta have the guts to start somewhere.
Like I said, I wish them luck. Pulling off a thing like this is a major undertaking and I do think they might do okay. We'll see how it shapes up but I don't know if being known for having a "has-beens of fratboy rock" festival is something that's going to get a whole lot of attention. Now if Skynyrd or Molly Hatchet were involved, I'd have tickets by now.
Who's footing the bill and for how much?
Definitely not my thing!
Sincerely,
Burdened COJ Taxpayer
Relax. It looks to be a completely private venture.
