A veto-proof majority of the Florida Senate rebuked Gov. Rick Scott on Thursday in a letter that urged the federal government to give the state $2.4 billion in high-speed rail money that Scott wants to reject.
“Politics should have no place in the future of Florida’s transportation, as evidenced by this letter of bipartisan support,†said the letter, signed by 26 members of the Republican-controlled Florida Senate.
“This project would create real jobs, cleaner and smarter transportation and true economic development for Floridians,†said the letter written to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
The letter was partly authored by one of Scott’s first senate backers, Republican Paula Dockery of Lakeland, who argued that the newly created Florida Rail Enterprise could act independently of Scott because the state’s share of the rail money -- $300 million â€" was already approved last year by a previous governor, Charlie Crist.

TALLAHASSEE --
Just a month and a half on the job, and already the winds of a recall are swirling around Gov. Rick Scott.
The governor has made some enemies in the state capitol, and many are his fellow Republicans in the legislature.
As the rift continues to widen, Scott’s ability to get things done may start to weaken.
Scott arrived in Tallahassee as an outsider and a man with no political experience, who was determined to change government as we know it.
First, he rolled out a controversial budget, cutting everything from education to prisons.
“My job is to represent the taxpayers of this state, and I'm not comfortable that this is a project that we ought to be doing,†Scott said.
The governor's rejection of federal funding for high-speed rail opened up a new and very public divide with dozens of powerful Republican lawmakers.
They're making it clear they intend to overrule Scott and House Democratic leader Rep. Ron Saunders couldn't be happier.
“It seems that lately that we've been in agreement more with our Republican colleagues against the governor's positions, (be)cause when he came out with his budget, for example, even Republican legislators found it too draconian,†Saunders said.

Scott is really just George Bush in a different body, the rhetoric from the Left is the same as it was under Bush.

MtraininJax, Even if you meant Jeb Bush, not George, you could not be more off the mark. Both Jeb and George worked with their fellow party members and were honest men. I didn't like their policies, but they were nothing like Scott.
We have a known sociopath who has bought himself a big new toy called the State of Florida and he isn't going to let anyone else tell him how to play with it.

All I am saying is that many of you don't really know anything about him or his legacy, you are just reacting to his first 40 days in office. He has become the lightening rod of the left, just like GEORGE BUSH was for the patrons out here on these boards. He makes compelling arguments for his decisions. Was 911 a walk in the park for Bush? Never had it happened before hand. Crist was a limp noodle and acted as such and Scott comes into office and immediately lays down a 2-year proposed budget, everyone cries the world is ending, now he cuts out something that appears to be bad business for the state of Florida.
On top of it, he says, he'd rather use federal funds for ROADS, RAILROADS, and PORTS, but no one seems to care, all they want is 2.4 billion for a flawed rail system that only goes 84 miles. The short-sightedness has returned the same as it was here during the George Bush era. That's my main point.
Mr. Scott is a liar and a thief...remove him from office now or we are all going to suffer much more than we know.
