Title: Amtrak Parking: Clifford Lane
Post by: cityimrov on February 12, 2011, 09:39:40 AM
Ok, I'm planning to take a train trip to South Florida for the first time.  What's the parking situation like at this station?  Has anyone heard of anyone's car being stolen?  Is there some type of security/cameras there keeping watch?

In short, if I leave my car there for a week, what are the chances of it still being there in one piece when I come back?

I have left a car there before, a beaten up rusty p.o.s, no one touched it. Seriously, should be fine. Or you could cab it to be safe. Or pickup the train further south at a different stop.

I've left a car there several times with no problems. The station is 5 miles from downtown so a cab wouldn't cost much. JTA also runs a bus there.

Never had a problem either but that doesn't mean to leave the car keys, wallet, laptop or purse in plain sight. Amtrak is in a fairly bad area, but the station "island," is better. It is isolated, monitored and patrolled.

Anyway, your not nearly as likely to be robbed, assaulted, raped or set on fire in Jacksonville as you are in Orlando, Tampa or Miami....BUT...We're WAY MORE LIKELY to just kill you outright.

So basically what your saying is as long as my car doesn't stop or break down anywhere outside the station, I'll be fine? :)   Amtrak trains unfortunately do have a tendency to arrive late in the odd hours of the morning.

Those numbers are pretty good.  Now when I click anywhere outside that area, ouch.  I should double check the tires and oil to make sure I can make it into the station!

In short, if I leave my car there for a week, what are the chances of it still being there in one piece when I come back?

At first, I was nervous about leaving my car at the station and either:
1.) Asked a relative or friend to drop me off and pick me up - OR
2.) Asked a relative to drop off my car the morning of my arrival

Seeing an increasing number of cars parked for the long term and seeing a relatively safe setting, I have been more at ease with leaving my car in the parking lot and returning to drive back home in an intact car...
