Title: Brooklyn Park Updated renderings
Post by: thelakelander on October 24, 2007, 10:05:02 PM
Despite the switch from dominate residential to retail, this development will retain it's urban layout.

looks like they killed the trolley bus transit mall thing JTA mentioned during the original design process.

Good point.

I wonder if the lot at the bottom right is set aside for a new skyway station.

i would almost prefer the skyway to run the block behind riverside.  the buildings on that first block are too nice to obstruct their view of the river with a skyway track.  that block looks like it would have more retail/foot traffic.

One of the things that I like about this is that they show how you can have some greenspace without using half of the block.

The frontage along Riverside and Stonewall is of what we were trying to explain to Adam Hollingsworth a while back during that meeting about the Main Street pocket park.

That would indeed, make more sense and not take away from the beauty.

Does anyone know the cost of expanding the skyway to Brooklyn Park?  This is a great project, interesting to see how the developement goes.

Just imagine if JTA had the will to build Mass Transit, Here's another view of Brooklyn Park, In the foreground note the Trolley Bus lines on Riverside, The Skyway down Magnolia and the Streetcars on distant Park... All headed for Annie Lyttle and 5-Points, and from there, throughout the area! If I were only king...

Not sure of the cost but the JTA has given it some thought.  It is the one expansion they seem to think will be beneficial.

Because the skyway infrastructure is already there.  Since the maintenance center is literally across the street, all they need to do is put up a cheap at-grade station to serve a development that can potentially become a regional urban draw.

Miles has torn down all the buildings at 100 Park Street this week. These were the old Royal Services Buildings.  We should be starting to see some more activity soon !

I'm very interested to see what the small round building on the right will become.  It looks like it will house at least one restaurant and some retail.  This is very exciting that the development is moving forward.  I wasn't able to check on all the projects I would have like while I was home for FL/GA, so that is good to hear.  I did see Kings Ave Station is getting underway.
