Is it a parking lot, a park or what? I looked at it and it doesn't look like there's much space to park cars. Its on the northeast corner of Forsyth and Market Street.
This is a lot for the churchwell lofts - instead of putting parking somewhere productive, they built a surface lot.
Lovely, isn't it.
Jacksonville parking at it's finest. We must be the dumbest city.

I think this deserves a revolt!
How dare a developer who is converting an old empty building downtown to lofts also build a parking lot near the building!
tufsu1, didn't this developer attempt to build a parking garage in this area first? I can't remember all the steps of this deal, but it took them a while to find a spot for parking, which was needed to secure the deal to renovate into lofts.

not sure...but I doubt they could have afforded a garage....there aren't very many units in the bldg.
of course the point of my post was to say that we ought to cut them a bit of slack since they are doing a great project downtown
I agree. I'm impressed by what they've done. Hopefully they'll find some success in leasing out the first floor retail spaces.

No dispute there - I really like the project. The problem is that any downtown that works has connectivity. Surface parking lots do not add to that connectivity. By doing a parking lot there for that project, I just fear we are headed down a slippery slope. If the guy next door wants to do something, should we just build a parking lot right next to this new one?
