Wow. Totally unexpected.
Not really. I had heard from political "insiders" he was lacking in fund raising, endorsements, and general name recognition and would likely withdraw by mid-January. A good man it appears, but just too many other candidates in the race to stand out in the crowd. I think he was most similar to Ms. Moran in appeal so I think his pulling out would most benefit her. Just my opinion.
I have seen more Jim Bailey signs in private businesses more than any other candidate excluding Hogan in the Sleiman centers. I thought that it was looking like a real grass roots campaign and that the money would not be the defining factor.
I thought the momentum was building and not the opposite.
Race is still early, look for January to see the candidates to turn up the heat. Jim was a great person, but I really never saw much of an impact outside of downtown. He will have more influence outside of the mayor's office, glad to see him where he is.
Ah man that sucks. He was one of my favorites. Any word on glorious? I know she was having troubles raising money as well
Glorious hasn't even raised $25,000...I would be surprised if she's much of a factor
Figured something was up once the San Marco Theatre event got cancelled last minute.
The 2011 Mayoral Race just got weaker with Mr Bailey's departure. Jim, thank you for providing your vision.

Yea, looks like Jax may get more of the same. damn it, I liked a lot of what this guy was pushing for. Sad news in the Jax Mayor race. Now that Bailey is gone my interest is thinning.
Right or wrong......tis his call people! Sad to see him leave the race, but I can understand the finanacial picture entering the equation.......to this point, it looks like to me the three leaders are Mullaney, Hogan and Moran. I don't think the other candidates have the warchest of those three but I am just guessing! Either way, the race should start heating up big time real soon!

Thanks Abel! This serves as a good reminder to those posting articles. You must provide the link to articles gleaned from the web. The reader appreciates it... the author deserves it... the publishers (and this site) require it.
Bailey was one of my favorite candidates. The race definitely has lost a strong competitor and a great potential mayor. Time to back up Rick Mullaney and Audrey Moran.
