At the roundtable meeting, Elaine Lancaster mentioned three houses which will be demolished in the near future:
1630 Ionia (now gone), 445 East 7th Street (emergency demo) and 1524 Market Street (on the Formal Track for demolition.)
1630 was a burn out and although it could have been saved had it been adequately mothballed and monitored, two fires was more than this poor house could take. It was too damaged to be reasonably saved.
445 East 7th Street was damaged when the fire hit the house next door. This structure was restored previous to its damage and its loss will be sad. It could have been saved with temporary bracing, but it does need significant work to make its exterior envelope secure.
1524 Market Street appears to be structurally sound.

Although it is missing the southeast pier, it appears to my eyes that the pier was damaged when the porch was removed.

There is significant structure remaining.

The house is not only sound but it is plumb as well. Looking at the level which is placed against the house, it is well less than 1 inch out of plumb in the front and in the back. I have also included pictures of the back of the building.
Included in this thread are the HPC minutes for this structure when it was given the go-head to demolish by the commissioners. Testimony was given by code enforcement that the house was beginning to "teeter-tottering". Louise DeSpain suggests that it go as an emergency demolition.
It is boarded. It appears to be structurally sound.
That is plumb:

Elaine Lancaster is another COJ employee who has done more to destroy historic property than anyone.
Except perhaps SPAR.
I guess it's beyond salvageability and renovation. What a shame. Oh well.
"HU"
I certainly don't think so.
Candidate for mothballing maybe?
It is already "mothballed."
The 1st floor is completely secured.
The 2nd floor should be boarded though.

Yeah, I've spoken with her on the phone (just randomly inquiring about a few properties that had code issues & we're prob gonna be demoed) & she has a very "we're gonna do what we're gonna do" tone & attitude.
Does it anybody strike as odd that one of the reason for the urgency is that the building is about to be sold? Why not give the potential new owner a chance? This is sick :( But I bet this is WAY BETTER then having hearts painted on boards.
When it comes down what will go up in its place.
Overgrown grass, that's what will go in it's place.

And we have the pictures to prove that!
So why not shore up the so-called collapsing piers and it could stand strong for another few generations to enjoy?
^MCCD will not do that.
But someone needs to do it.
