Title: 630-CITY
Post by: David on November 23, 2010, 11:59:46 AM
I'm curious if anyone had any positive feedback from the city regarding their hotline, 630-city.  I mostly call them about street conditions and traffic signal timing.

Example: Today while exiting the Roosevelt expressway and waiting to turn left onto McDuff I waited 5+ minutes at a traffic light, during which the lights cycled 5 times never giving us a green turn arrow.

A dump truck driver in front of me became so impatient he decided to run the light. While the rest of us waited for another few minutes before getting a signal change.

I've called before about a few other issues but they were never resolved. Has anyone else had any luck with them?

I have.

I recall then (some time ago) a file number was given to the call and one could later contact the City and follow up on any action/finding.

I find it easier to file complaints and follow-up on the city's web site,  coj.net.  I've found them to be very responsive on zoning and street condition issues, pot holes, signs, etc.

630-CITY can and should assign a case/report number to every call that comes in. You should be given that number to reference for follow-up and such.  And if you're serious about anything, PLEASE leave valid contact info.
You'd be surprised how many people don't give a phone number and say something like "I'm mad at how the trash isn't picked up!" and don't even say WHERE!

ANY city employee can enter a complaint/issue using the E-C.A.R.E. system, not just those in the call center. All are encouraged to learn how to do it, and quite a few do.
If you want to go online to coj.net to kill some time, you should really look through the drop-down lists to see all the categories they have. Get some understanding of what you're really asking for, and you'd get your request addressed faster than a shot in the dark.

I have called them and filed complaints about garbage pick-up. I usually get a response the same day.

The few times I have used the 630-CITY website, some time passes, then the status is changed to "resolved" even if nothing has been done.
