Title: Healthy Kids 2011
Post by: kbwhite on November 17, 2010, 01:33:53 PM
Deadline to submit applications for Healthy Kids 2011 is Friday, November 19, 2010.  First Coast Kids Triathlon’s Healthy Kids 2011 is a 6-month, intensive effort to help at-risk kids learn, understand and develop the habits necessary for them to lead healthy, active lives.  The program, aimed at fighting childhood obesity, is available for kids, ages 10 to 14, who are not currently active.  It is a free program, but space is limited.  Parents would need to fill out an application and get it to the organization no later than Friday, the 19th.  The actual program will get underway on the 23rd.  Each child that participates gets the following:

•   Full medical physicals at the start, midpoint and end of the project
•   All the equipment they need to complete the triathlon
•   Participation in the weekly meetings which include presentations by a number of experts and hands-on field trips
•   Ongoing coaching from a Registered Dietitian
•   A customized exercise plan developed by a USAT Certified Triathlon Coach and an athletic trainer
•   Access to utilize all the facilities at the Brooks Family YMCA for their training, including ongoing encouragement and advice from training staff
•   A binder/diary to track all of their activities and feelings through the program
•   Free registration for the 2011 First Coast Kids Triathlon

This is free; all guardians have to do is get the kids to the weekly sessions held at Brooks Family YMCA, located at 10423 Centurion Pkwy N.  Applications can be found online at www.firstcoastkidstriathlon.com and there is an option to mail them in, drop them off at Brooks YMCA or they can be emailed to Mandy Gildersleeve at tgildersleeve@comcast.net.
