Title: Ah...yum...Caribbean Stone!

Joe and I had the most delicious dinner tonight at the Caribbean Stone (904-554-9033) on West 8th Street between Silver and Pearl.

Grandma Marva and her granddaughter Enjahli cook up amazing food in their modest diner, and have been doing so at this location since 1996.

Their best seller is the curry shrimp which is so good I barely resisted the temptation to lick the bowl clean.

Joe had spicy and sweet wings and made-from-scratch mac n'cheese.

Lunch and dinner, Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00-11:00.

She has a walk-up window and a drive through window.

Eating locally?  It makes an impact...Marva walks to Springfield Superette to do her shopping for the restaurant.

A dollar spent at Caribbean Stone really does stay in the neighborhood.

Our dinners, together, including the "Mind your own business punch" was under $15.00.  We both had more than we could eat.

Marva makes her own cakes, yellow and confetti, which she sells for $2 a slice.  If you are looking for a healthier snack, carrot juice is also $2.00.

Call from work -- hit the drive-through on your way home.

Thanks for posting this information and the excellent photographs as well.    I notice that the restaurant has entries on both Urbanspoon and Yelp, but no one has written a review on either site.   That photo and your description makes me want to go there right away even though we don't do takeout.

Do they take credit cards or do I need to hit the ATM first?

Good question.

Take cash the first time :)  Or call and ask.

Thanks Secular!  I love the adventure of finding authentic places & being rewarded with good food is a plus!

From scratch.

We're so used to microwaved warmed-overs prepared in corporate kitchens... my taste buds said "ZING!"

I'm hungry.  I think I'm going to head over to this place right now for some curry shrimp.

@ Lake.  Find out if they take credit cards!

@ Spr chick:  good thing is ...you won't need to bring anything larger than a $20 bill.

^Unfortunately, I went just as soon as I made that post.  I had the curry shrimp and told them I stopped because I heard about them on Metro Jacksonville.  They smiled when I told them about your post.

They should get a booth at RAM. This type of kind would just spice up the RAM's diverse of selection.

Regardlessly, I must plan a walking journey via JTA via downtown from Beach Blvd. to there to just try it out! I will post my experience and review one day.

Josh, when you try it out, let Marva know about RAM's booths.  I think that is great idea.

Stopping by Tuesday afternoon..does Miss Marva by chance sell "Ting" Grapefruit soda made in Kingston?
"Ting" was just what my taste buds wanted..admittedly only 5% juice ,but it is lightly carbonated and not a syrupy finishing taste.
I thought it tasted like a WAY better version of Dr Browns Cel-Ray Celery soda with out the salty taste.

Did someone say Curry Chicken with cabbage?..I might try that first. Jamaican my taste buds crazy right now.... ;)

Had the shrimp curry on rice & peas (pigeon peas) with cabbage and some infamous MindYaBusiness punch, all Marva specialties. Delicious! Can't wait for more Guyanese delicacies!

Had lunch there the other day and the food is fantastic, it's these little places that are often overlooked, and I was guilty of that until sheclown pointed it out. It's well worth the stop, and the owner is delightful too.

They do not take credit cards. So stop by the bank.
Their phone number is 554 - 9033 (it's a typo on the menu).
Tisha (Marva's grand-daughter) keeps the orders flowing.
Go eat there. Do it. Or I'm eating it all up.

Good News!!

Caribbean Stone is now open on Sundays 1:00 to 5:00 (remembering that we operate here on island time).

She will be serving typical Sunday-after-church-grandma's-house fare including meatloaf, baked chicken, pot roast...

Sunday dinner at Marva's. What a great place to enjoy some comfort food

This was our second time. Marva is amazing, the food is outstanding, and I'm kicking myself for not going in years ago. Bring cash, you get a lot for your money. I can't wait to try the breakfast.
