Title: Downtown Jacksonville. Needs A Topless Bar?
Post by: CS Foltz on October 26, 2010, 02:57:19 PM
It just occured to me that maybe downtown needs a skin club to attract people to the core? Cafe Risque or maybe  Esquire or Play Boy could be enticed, with the proper JEDC or DVI incentives? ::)

I am trying to think outside of the box..............I know marketed properly, with taste of course, that would liven things up for sure, plus eatery's in the vicinity would benefit...........tax revenue for the City, FBC might have a different view, but if not open on Sundays............I don't see where it would cause them grief!

Actally I see a new market forming - a homelss guy next to each parking meter gladly giving you .75 change for every $1.  I actually see the topless bar as a solution to both an employment and parking problem!  ;D

Jo-Ann's Chili Bordello seemed to do well when it was on W. Forsyth, but I don't know how much skin was actually exposed.  I think people actually went there for the chili.

Yeah FBC would have a cow! They would be at the of the strip club witnessing to the strippers and throwing holy oil. LOL But on a serious time its possiabe. In order to be far enough away from the church, it would probably have to be on Bay street, that's if this were REALLY an option  :P

If we add a strip club, can we then knock down the landing and put a Harrah's Riverfront Hotel and Casino?

With the amount of empty office towers we have, there's no need to knock down anything.  Some of the owners would probably be willing to give them away to a soul willing to take on the finanical challenge of filling them up.

Nah, I think the Landing could go. It's the perfect spot for a nice casino tower...

Too bad it won't happen.  COJ owns the land and doesn't plan on selling it to Sleiman or anyone else.

It would be nice if Jacksonville had an adult entertainment district.  One obstacle, IMO, would be the current laws that ban alcohol in establishments with nudity.

Better yet, fill the void left by Twisted Martini's closing and have a topless tapas bar.

I seem to remember Howard's G-String Lounge and maybe a place called The Comic Book Club.

Has anyone been to Printer's Alley in Nashville? That would be awesome in Downtown Jacksonville...

It would be really cool to see a new type of Jo-Ann's Chili Bordello too - something of a destination restaurant with a little envelope pushing - where you come in for more than just the food.

[[RIP Jo-Ann who passed away last March. She certainly left her mark on the Jacksonville community!]]

.....and maybe a strip club would tick off FBC just enough to where they decide to move to the 'burbs where they belong!

I googled the Comic Book Club and it must have been a night club because all the references were about Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Bros.  Wasn't the Siver Dollar at Eighth and Main in Springfield?

tufsu............got one on the Philips end of University, three on Philips in the same general area and I remember one on Beach at the 95 end before the overpass! Need something downtown to increase revenue for the City so that they may be able to afford to contract your company for some more prefeasability work  ;) Downtown needs some help.............open for suggestions..................what ya got?

well CS...one suggestion would be not to kick FBC out of downtown...they bring close to 10,000 folks downtown every Sunday....instead, why not capitalize on that market.

I dont mind them being on NorthBank just as long as they dont take up so much space.

A quality international caliber downtown is not EVER exclusionary, and should be in all things inclusive. Baptists downtown, YES, the more the merrier... Catholic's, Muslim's, Atheists, Straights, Gays, and the just plain confused... Here is some old hippie wisdom for y'all:

Who, The
Tommy (1969)
Welcome

Tommy:

Come to my house
Be one of the comfortable people.
Come to this house
We're drinking all night
Never sleeping.

Milkman come in!
And you baker,
Little old lady welcome
And you shoe maker

Come to this house!
Into this house.

Come to this house
Be one of us.
Make this your house
Be one of us.

You can help
To collect some more in
Young and old people
Lets get them all in!

Come to this house!
Into this house.

Ask along that man who's wearing a carnation.
Bring every single person
from Victoria Station,
Go into that hospital
and bring nurses and patients,
Everybody go home and fetch their relations!

Come to this house
Be one of the comfortable people.
Lovely bright home
Drinking all night never sleeping.

We need more room
Build an extension
A colourful palace
Spare no expense now

Come to this house
Be one of us
Come into this house
Be one of us

Come to this house
Into this house

Welcome

OCKLAWAHA

Ill Co Sign this!! Downtown IS for EVERYONE. The Best Strip Club in everycity should be in the core NEVER in the sticks. As a former cab driver a central strip club is important....business men do look for these place. I stayed taking the business dudes from Fidelity, Omni & Hyatt o that wackos place on Emerson & Gold Club on Blanding...it was a nice fare, but still thats how far I had to go to get those guys to the bootyclubs.
