Jerry Moran, owner and operator of La Cena, 211 North Laura Street, (http://www.menupix.com/jacksonville/restaurants/881254/La-Cena-Ristorante-Jacksonville-FL) read about Miss Maggie's plight on Metrojacksonville and wanted Miss Maggie to have a new refrigerator. So, he made arrangements and the fridge was delivered yesterday to a very excited little old lady.
Thank You Jerry!!

Jerry proudly took me around his restaurant -- he makes his own pasta -- everything looks so delicious.
Should you want to thank Jerry for helping Miss Maggie...go dine there soon!
Very generous and kindhearted...thank you, Jerry!
Way to go, Jerry!
I will be going and enjoying an excellent dinner and thanking Jerry! Jacksonvilians always impress me with their spirit and love!
Nice Community support! Thanks Jerry. I bet Miss Maggie has a few Great recipes of her own.
Thank you Jerry for this much needed gift for Miss Maggie. I am very appreciative. I look forward to dining at your restaurant!!!
What a generous gesture. I'm also looking forward to dining at your restaurant and meeting you.
Jerry is a fun guy and a great story teller. I had a wonderful time talking to him and seeing his restaurant. He is going into his 10th year on Laura Street (next to Chamblin's) an amazing feat.
What I find entirely unsurprising is the fact that Jerry is one of the more outspoken posters concerning the scourge that loiters downtown. He is not the only one who is viewed as heartless in many discussions where he speaks honestly about what so many "homeless" people really are and do.
Others speak with a more compassionate tone, buuuuut....
Jerry is the type of person who speaks with actions. Feel good diatribes accomplish little.
Well done Mr Moran.

Yeah, considering all the obstacles the city throws at anyone brave enough to venture downtown, Moran deserves an award for being able to survive that long. Most other businesses, and most of the big corporations, have bailed for the suburbs in that time.
In fact, I had to go down there to do a document review the other day and found my "green badge of courage" stuck under my windshield wiper when I came back. I think I was overtime on the meter by maybe 2 minutes? !@#$
I call them that because that's how COJ rewards people who decide to go downtown despite all the reasons not to.
if you have a house, he'll buy you a fridge, sure. but if you don't, he'll record your distress and lack ov dignity and post it on youtube.
Why all the hate??
Way to go Jerry..... Gotta give credit where credit is due.

I think Jerry's point isn't to embarrass anyone, he's trying to bring the rampant homeless problem to the attention of COJ, which has historically ignored the issue despite it being literally at their doorstep.
Kudos to Jerry! I look forward to our visit to the restaurant.

She brags about her biscuits and her sweet potato pie.

Tell me more about the dignity involved in urinating and defecating on the sidewalk or even better- someone's doors and windows.
Jerry's a hero in more ways than one.
If I had the time and energy I would chase Jerry around for a while filming all his public activities.
Title of the thread is "Jerry Moran buys Miss Maggie a new fridge"! Kudos to Jerry for this simple act of kindness! He didn't have to!
Jerry and I don't see the world in the same way, especially on homeless issues. That being said, this man is on the front lines and has been for almost a decade. His frustration is totally understandable while his courage to stay firmly rooted in the urban core is, at times, baffling.
It is a lack of leadership on the homeless situation that is to blame here. I think it is quite appropriate that city leaders need to step over displaced poor people to get inside city hall, but I also think it is tragic that potential customers have to do the same to eat at Jerry's restaurant.

Lack of dignity? Seriously? Just where's the dignity in urinating and/or defecating in public?

Go ahead, you'll not find him urinating and/or defecating on public and private property. However, you may catch him the act of doing something honorable and decent for someone he doesn't even know...Lord knows, we can't have that! ::)
Excellent point Stephen.
Camera is not a problem............can't kill something with a camera, might be able to bludgen something but would really have to work at it to kill! If Jerry is anything like me, don't need a gun unless people are throwing lead from afar, in that case strategic withdrawal and regroup!
Well, be that as it may...the man bought Miss Maggie a fridge...a brand new one and had it delivered.

And I know one little old lady who thinks he is a hero today.
In the words of Miss Maggie: "I've been praying and praying and the Lord Jesus answered my prayers."
Thank you Jerry for your love and support, and helping to answer Miss Maggie's prayers.
